50: the reason why the little girl in the pink coat’s learning bad stuff from Fat Ginger Katherine and Finger of Fudge Fiona

Tuesday morning and I’m at work with a gauze bandage wrapped round me right hand and tied secure with Sellotape.

The kiddies are having their morning playing and I’m at me bedroom window again watching that little girl in the pink coat. Me mam’s with me, ’cause me mam’s getting to really like the little girl too and she reckons that it’s only a matter of days till they steal her for me.

‘She looks a bit like you,’ me mam says to me.

The little girl in the pink coat’s sitting on the wooden picnic table, dummy in her mouth, and her legs are dangling over the edge. She’s swinging her legs backwards and forwards and looking around at all the other kiddies. She’s on her own, clearly a bit of a loner like me. I’m staring at her and me mam’s staring at her.

‘Wish she’d look at us,’ I says to me mam.

‘Bang on your window,’ me mam says to me.

So I do. Fat Ginger Katherine and Finger of Fudge Fiona look up. Finger of Fudge Fiona gives us the finger.

‘The filthy whore,’ me mam says to me, ‘and in front of them kiddies too.’

‘It’s not right, Mam,’ I says to me mam. ‘Them kiddies deserve better.’

The little girl in the pink coat doesn’t look up at the window. Instead she’s watching Fat Ginger Katherine and Finger of Fudge Fiona and she’s swinging her little legs backwards and forwards and backwards and forwards and giving Fat Ginger Katherine and Finger of Fudge Fiona the finger.
